Advancing Precision & Education at the Buxton Microsurgical Education Center

In December 2024, the Buxton Microsurgical Education Center proudly completed a major technology upgrade with the installation of ten (10) ZEISS EXTARO 300 surgical microscopes. This state-of-the-art equipment elevates both clinical performance and surgical education, reinforcing our commitment to innovation, excellence, and knowledge-sharing in ophthalmic care.

Next-Generation Technology for Modern Ophthalmology

The ZEISS EXTARO 300 combines world-class optics with intuitive digital integration. Each microscope is equipped with a built-in full HD (1080p) camera, enabling high-resolution recording and real-time visualization during surgical procedures.

With the hands-free Mode Control system, surgeons can instantly capture images or begin video recording—without interrupting their focus or workflow. This seamless integration not only enhances surgical precision but also supports meaningful advancements in training and education.

Empowering Learning Through Visual Access

The new imaging capabilities offer a powerful toolset for both physicians and trainees. The ability to easily document and review surgeries supports:

  • Real-time collaboration and live case streaming
  • Post-procedure analysis and skill refinement
  • Intern and resident education
  • Patient education and transparency

Our physicians have enthusiastically embraced the system, citing the ease and utility of procedure recording as a valuable enhancement to both practice and learning.

A Platform for Precision and Progress

At the Buxton Microsurgical Education Center, we believe the best surgical outcomes come from the right balance of technology, training, and team development. With the ZEISS EXTARO 300, we are enhancing visual precision in the operating room while creating an immersive, hands-on learning environment for the next generation of ophthalmic professionals.

This upgrade is more than a technological enhancement—it’s a foundation for the future of ophthalmic excellence.
