• Jorge N. Buxton, MD, Microsurgical Educator Awards
  Presented annually to one Ophthalmology faculty member, this award honors exceptional contributions to the microsurgical training of ophthalmology residents at New York Eye and Ear of Mount Sinai.  This award us presented each year at the June graduation.  

• The Conchita Orjiles, R.N. Awards
  Celebrating excellence in surgical patient care, these annual honors are awarded to:
  • One outstanding Operating Room Technician
  • One exceptional Nurse at NYEE

• The Conrad Berens Lecture – Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO)
  The Conrad Berens Lecture is one of the most distinguished honors presented at the biennial PAAO Congress, celebrating transformative contributions to ophthalmology and education.
  • 2023: Dr. Douglas F. Buxton delivered the Conrad Berens Lecture at the PAAO Congress that took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina in March 2023, recognizing his leadership in ophthalmic microsurgery education.
  • 2025: Dr. Reubens Belfort Jr. has been selected as the next recipient and  presented the Berens Lecture at the PAAO Congress that took place in Bogota, Colombia on June 1, 2025.
  • 2027: The next PAAO Congress is scheduled to take place in Lima, Peru in March 2027.
