A Legacy of Surgical Excellence and Global Impact
The Jorge N. Buxton, MD and Douglas F. Buxton, MD Microsurgical Education Foundation was established in 2010 by Dr. Douglas F. Buxton in honor of his father and mentor, Dr. Jorge N. Buxton, a pioneer in the field of ophthalmology and microsurgery.
The Foundation supports the state-of-the-art Microsurgical Education Center at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai — one of the premier surgical training centers in the country. The Foundation also sponsors international surgical missions to underserved communities and provides scholarships to promising surgeons.
Our mission is simple: to advance microsurgical education and improve access to life-changing surgical care globally.
Our Core Values:
- Surgical Innovation
- Excellence in Teaching
- Global Service
- Collaboration
- Compassionate Care
Our Legacy:
Dr. Jorge N. Buxton was a visionary educator and surgeon who trained generations of ophthalmologists and helped establish one of the first microsurgical research centers in the country.
